Meet People Around You in Real Life

50 Feet Away was designed in response to a growing societal problem: people are physically closer than ever, yet socially more disconnected than at any point in modern history.
Their approach to innovative design centers on proximity-first human awareness. Rather than building another endless-scroll platform, they engineered a behavioral interface that activates only when users are physically present in shared real-world spaces—restaurants, airports, coffee shops, conventions, and neighborhoods.
This design philosophy shifts technology from distraction to augmentation. The app does not replace real-life interaction but enhances it.
By allowing users to discover others within a hyper-local radius, down to 50 feet, it transforms passive public environments into active social ecosystems. Through intentional filters such as networking, collaboration, shared interests, and “mystery” discovery, users control how they are seen and how they engage. The design reduces friction while preserving autonomy and privacy.
As a small, founder-led company, their design process prioritizes simplicity, real-time context awareness, and behavioral psychology over vanity metrics. Early adoption patterns show strong engagement in social hubs, validating the thesis that people want to connect, if friction and ambiguity are removed.
50 Feet Away is not merely an app. It is a design intervention aimed at restoring human proximity as a meaningful social signal in the digital age.
